This comprehensive timing tool kit is designed for checking and adjusting engine timing on a wide range of BMW engines. It is used during disassembly and reassembly of the timing chain, ensuring correct synchronization of engine components.


Function

The kit allows precise locking of the crankshaft and accurate alignment of camshafts, as well as adjustment of VANOS units where applicable. It also includes tools for chain pre-tensioning and tensioner handling, ensuring proper timing setup and reducing risk of engine damage.

Storage & Design

The set is supplied in a practical tool tray insert, designed for use in workshop tool trolleys or compatible systems such as BGS Box 26, ensuring organized storage and efficient workflow.

Crankshaft locking pin (1),
to be used as OEM 112300

This tool is suitable for all listed engines and is inserted from the engine side into the flywheel bore.
To install, rotate the crankshaft until cylinder 1 is at TDC (Top Dead Center).

Note: The bore may show corrosion on cast iron engines and should be cleaned before insertion if necessary.


Camshaft alignment tool (2),
to be used as OEM 113240,
for engines with double camshafts

Camshaft alignment tool (4),
to be used as OEM 113320,
for M21 SOHC engines

Camshaft alignment tool (3),
to be used as OEM 113190,
for other SOHC engines

The tools rest on the valve cover gasket surface of the cylinder head, and the cut-outs align with the vertical faces of the camshafts.

The two-piece tool (2) is connected together.


VANOS unit wrench,
to be used as OEM 115490

Carefully rotate the exhaust sprocket and the secondary chain counterclockwise.
Required for removal and installation of VANOS units with spring plates.

VANOS units without spring plates can be removed without using wrench (5).


Timing chain tensioning tool (7),
to be used as OEM 114220

Timing chain tensioning tool (8),
to be used as OEM 113390

When setting engine timing, the chain tensioning tool (7) / (8) is applied to the primary timing chain.

M22 for M42 & M60 engines
M26 for M50 & M52 engines
