This specialized camshaft locking tool is essential for correctly setting the timing of camshafts on Ford I3 (B1 and B4) Duratec Dragon engine generations with timing belt drive.
It is used during timing belt replacement and engine repair to ensure accurate camshaft positioning.
Engine Design & Function
Unlike previous engine generations, it is no longer possible to lock the camshafts using a rear alignment bar.
Both intake and exhaust camshafts are equipped with a square drive (4-sided profile) located at the front, just behind the first camshaft bearing.
This square profile is used to align the camshafts precisely and set the engine to top dead center (TDC) for cylinder 1.
Function
The tool engages with the camshaft square profile, ensuring exact positioning during service.
This prevents incorrect timing setup and ensures proper engine operation after reassembly.
