This engine timing tool set is specifically developed for the newer generation of Ford 1.5L EcoBoost 3-cylinder engines equipped with timing chains.
The kit enables precise alignment of camshaft and crankshaft components during timing chain service and engine maintenance. The special camshaft tool is mounted on the intake camshaft, establishing the base position for correct alignment of the marked timing chain.
Engine Design & Function
These engines use a timing chain system with marked chain links that must align with the markings on both camshaft sprockets and the crankshaft gear.
Unlike earlier systems, this setup does not use a crankshaft locking pin, making accurate camshaft positioning essential.
Important Technical Notes
- Camshaft adjusters and valve cover do NOT need to be removed for standard timing chain replacement
- If camshaft adjusters are removed, the counter-holding tool can also be used on the exhaust camshaft
- The timing chain includes alignment markings for both camshafts and crankshaft
- Proper alignment of all timing marks is critical for engine operation

Tool set for adjusting the engine timing on the newer generation of Ford Motor Company EcoBoost 3-cylinder engines with 1.5-liter displacement. These engines are chain-driven and require a modified timing tool for the camshafts. From 2017 onwards, these engines were installed in models such as the Fiesta ST, Focus, Puma, and Kuga, producing 150 HP or 200 HP.
The special camshaft tool is mounted on the intake camshaft and establishes the base position for the timing chain, which is equipped with alignment markings.
Note:
The camshaft adjusters and the valve cover do not need to be removed for a standard timing chain replacement.
If it becomes necessary to remove the camshaft adjusters, the counter-holding tool can also be used for the exhaust camshaft.
The timing chain has markings for both camshafts and the crankshaft, which must align with the respective gear markings.
There is no locking pin provided for the crankshaft in this setup.
