Engine Timing Tool Set for Mercedes-Benz M254, M256

This specialized tool set is designed for adjusting engine timing on Mercedes-Benz M254 and M256 engines. It is suitable for timing chain replacement and general engine repair procedures.

Functionality

The set includes all essential tools required for correct base timing setup, including camshaft adjusters, camshafts, timing chain, and crankshaft positioning. It ensures accurate synchronization of engine components during service work.

Suitable for Mercedes-Benz engines:

• M254
• M256

M254.915, M254.920, M256.930

Technical Notes

The timing chain and valve train gears are located at the rear of the engine.

To check timing:

• Remove the crankshaft pulley and camshaft sensor
• Install the crankshaft positioning tool and plastic adapter into the sensor bore
• Verify camshaft marking through inspection window

If timing is incorrect:

• Remove upper timing cover and two-part camshaft adjusters
• Preload and lock camshaft adjusters before loosening

Note:

• Exhaust camshaft adjuster oil control valve uses left-hand thread
• Intake side uses standard thread

Torque Specifications

• Crankshaft pulley/damper bolts: 50 Nm + 180°
• Camshaft sprocket (oiled): 125 ± 5 Nm
• Chain tensioner: 80 Nm
• Guide rails: 25 Nm
• Cylinder head cover (inside to outside): 6 Nm, 6 Nm + 90°
• Camshaft position sensor: 8 Nm
