This dial gauge extension is used to precisely determine the top dead center (TDC) of the piston or the crankshaft position using a dial gauge.

A dial gauge with an 8 mm shaft diameter (e.g. Art. No. 21036) can be securely fixed using the clamping screw.

Function

The tool enables accurate engine timing adjustment by providing a stable and precise extension into the combustion chamber. It ensures reliable measurement of piston position during timing procedures.

Technical Solution for Modern Engines

Problem:
On newer VAG TSI and TFSI engines, piston recesses are positioned directly below the spark plug bore. Standard extensions may lose contact with the piston.

Solution:
This updated version allows adjustable immersion depth:

Standard measuring tip length: 25 mm
By removing the upper adapter and reversing the measuring pin, depth increases to 31 mm
Preload is restored by removing the upper spacer

After adjustment, the tool can be returned to standard configuration for use on other engines.
