Overview:
✔ Professional Valvetronic valve spring compressor tool
✔ Designed for BMW S63B44B and S63TU engines
✔ Enables safe removal and installation of intermediate lever torsion springs
✔ Essential for handling high preload springs
✔ Prevents damage during disassembly and assembly
✔ Suitable for M5, M6, X5, X6 models
This specialized tool is designed for the removal and installation of the torsion springs on the Valvetronic intermediate levers in BMW engines.
Due to the high preload tension of these springs, safe disassembly is not possible without the correct tool. This compressor ensures controlled handling, preventing sudden release and potential damage to components.

⚠️ WARNING
These instructions refer to the repair of an S63B44B engine installed in a BMW M5 F10 (from 2010 onwards).
Always follow the manufacturer’s official service documentation.
Required Preparatory Work
- Remove the engine together with the front axle assembly
- Remove the cylinder head covers
- Remove auxiliary drive belt 1
⚠️ Warning: The A/C drive belt is an elastic belt (stretch belt)
It is tensioned via the crankshaft pulley
→ Observe the arrow marking on the pulley
→ The pulley is preloaded – ensure it does not suddenly release when rotating with loosened bolts - Remove auxiliary drive belt 2
- Remove the belt tensioner assembly
Disassembly Procedure
- Set the intake intermediate shaft (Valvetronic shaft) to zero lift position using the actuator motor bolt
- Rotate the engine via the central crankshaft bolt until the target intermediate lever is in position:
- Intake camshaft recess is vertical
- Intermediate shaft is at zero lift
- Install the special tool onto the cylinder head and preload the return spring (A)
- Loosen bolts in the following order:
- Upper bolt (1)
- Lower bolt (2) toward the spring (B)
- The tool can remain installed if continuing work on the same cylinder
- Remove the intermediate lever (guide) and extract the roller rocker arms using a magnet (C)
Installation Procedure
- Install the roller rocker arms and ensure correct seating (proper engagement/locking)
- Position the intermediate lever (guide rail):
- First, lightly tighten the lower bolt (1) (spring side), then loosen by 45°
- Then position the upper bolt (2) (D)
- Using the auxiliary tool (Part No. 117014):
- Install it on the opposite side
- Press the intermediate lever against the cylinder head
- Tighten bolts in order:
- Lower bolt → 10 Nm
- Upper bolt → 10 Nm
- Slightly preload the tool to allow the release mechanism to disengage
- After verifying the correct spring position, remove the tool
