This CO₂ leak tester is designed for diagnosing leaks in cylinder head gaskets and identifying combustion gases inside vehicle cooling systems.
When a cylinder head gasket fails between the combustion chamber and the cooling circuit, combustion gases continuously enter the cooling system. The same symptoms may also occur in cases of hairline cracks in the engine block or cylinder head.
The testing device allows fast and reliable diagnosis without disassembling engine components, reducing diagnostic time and unnecessary repair work.
Function Principle
The two chambers of the tester are filled with indicator fluid and air from the radiator expansion tank is drawn through the tester using the hand bulb.
If combustion gases are present inside the cooling system due to a defective cylinder head gasket or engine component damage, the indicator fluid changes color.
Test results:
- Indicator fluid retains original color → Cylinder head gasket is functioning correctly
- Indicator fluid changes color → Combustion gases detected in cooling system
Included Contents
- CO₂ leak tester unit
- 250 ml blue indicator fluid – Item No. 122914
- Storage bottle for previously used fluid
- 3 adapters suitable for various vehicle manufacturers
Technical Specifications
- Product type: CO₂ leak tester / cylinder head gasket diagnostic tool
- Application: Cooling system combustion gas testing
- Suitable for: Water-cooled combustion engines
- Reusable: Yes
- Adapter compatibility: Compatible with adapters from Item No. 117916
Important Note
Diesel engines operate with a high excess air ratio at idle speed and under partial load conditions. To achieve sufficient CO₂ concentration before testing, the engine should be operated under heavy load before diagnosis, such as a test drive at higher engine speeds.
Workshop Benefits
- Fast diagnostics without cylinder head removal
- Reduces troubleshooting time
- Detects potential cylinder head gasket failures and cracks
- Reusable design for repeated workshop use
- Broad vehicle compatibility through included adapters
