Rear Crankshaft Oil Seal Installation Tool for N12, N13, N14, N16, N18, D15 and EP6 Engines

This tool is designed for the professional installation of the transmission-side crankshaft oil seal on compatible BMW, MINI, Citroën, Fiat, Ford, Nissan, Opel, Peugeot and Toyota engines.

The tool positions the PTFE oil seal concentrically on the crankshaft and draws it evenly into its installation position, helping to prevent deformation or damage to the sealing lip.

Required Preparatory Work

• Remove the transmission.
• On vehicles with an automatic transmission, the torque converter is secured with four bolts. These can be accessed through the starter motor opening by rotating the engine.
• Remove the clutch and flywheel.
• Clean the threads of the flywheel mounting holes.
• Strike the upper side of the old oil seal carefully with a punch or drift to drive it out at the lower side.

Installation

• Position the crankshaft adapter and secure it with the three screws.
• Guide the PTFE oil seal together with its installation sleeve over the adapter until the seal rests against its seat.
• Fit the installation sleeve with the draw-in nut and tighten it until the stop is reached.
• Clean the crankshaft contact surface and reinstall the flywheel.

Flywheel bolt tightening procedure for automatic and manual transmissions with N12, N13, N16 and N18 engines, M9 x 1.25:

• Initial tightening: 8 Nm
• Second stage: 30 Nm
• Final stage: additional 90°
• Always use new bolts.

Important Installation Instructions

The compatible oil seals are PTFE radial shaft seals.

• Do not touch the sealing lip.
• The oil seal and all installation surfaces must be completely free from oil and grease.
• The seal must be installed dry.
• Always follow the vehicle manufacturer’s repair instructions and tightening specifications.
