Camshaft locking tool designed for precise locking of the camshaft during timing belt replacement and engine repair. Ensures correct positioning throughout the service procedure.

REMOVAL

WARNING:
On engines with variable valve timing, the camshafts, camshaft sprockets, camshaft adjusters, and associated camshaft drive components (if applicable) must be marked with chalk or paint before removal to ensure correct alignment during installation.

  1. Remove the exhaust camshaft adjuster cover.
  2. Remove the blanking plug from the engine block.
  3. Install the optional crankshaft locking tool (Part No. 62625-1). If the tool cannot be installed, remove it, rotate the crankshaft 90° clockwise, and reinstall the tool.
  4. Slowly rotate the crankshaft clockwise until the crank web rests against the locking tool (cylinder 1 at firing TDC).
  5. Ensure that the hole in the camshaft sprocket is in the 12 o’clock position.
  6. Ensure that the intake camshaft is in the shown position.
  7. Install the camshaft setting tool (1). Ensure the tool can be installed easily. Secure it with bolts.
  8. Insert the camshaft locking pin. Ensure the tool (2) is fully engaged in the camshaft sprocket.
  9. Hold the crankshaft pulley using a suitable counter-holding tool.
  10. Loosen and remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.
  11. Remove the crankshaft pulley and the lower timing belt cover.
  12. Hold the intake camshaft sprocket with a counter-holding tool.
  13. Remove the sealing plug of the intake camshaft adjuster.
  14. Loosen the intake camshaft sprocket.
  15. Hold the exhaust camshaft sprocket with a counter-holding tool.
  16. Loosen the central bolt of the exhaust camshaft sprocket.

WARNING:
Do not use camshaft setting tools to hold the camshafts when loosening or tightening fastening bolts. Always use a counter-holding tool.

  1. Loosen the tensioner pulley bolt and release tension from the timing belt.
  2. Remove the timing belt.

NOTE: If the timing belt is to be reused, mark its direction of rotation before removal.

 


INSTALLATION

  1. Ensure the crank web is resting against the crankshaft locking tool (Part No. 62625-1) (cylinder 1 at firing TDC).
  2. Ensure the camshaft setting tool (1) and locking pin (2) are correctly installed.
  3. Ensure the flat surface on the crankshaft journal is at the 12 o’clock position.
  4. Install the crankshaft timing belt sprocket, ensuring it is fully seated on the crankshaft journal.
  5. Fit the timing belt onto the crankshaft sprocket.

NOTE: Observe direction of rotation if reusing the old timing belt.

  1. Install the lower timing belt cover.
  2. Install the crankshaft pulley. The fastening bolt must be replaced.
  3. Hold the crankshaft pulley with a counter-holding tool.
  4. Tighten the crankshaft pulley bolt to the specified torque and angle.
  5. Replace the camshaft sprocket bolts and tighten them lightly by hand.
  6. Ensure both camshaft sprockets can rotate freely without binding or being restricted by overtightened bolts.
  7. Ensure the tensioner tab is seated in the cylinder head recess.
  8. Install the timing belt in the following order: guide pulley → tensioner pulley → camshaft sprocket (CA1) → camshaft sprocket (CA2).
  9. Tighten the tensioner pulley using a torque wrench.

WARNING: Never overtighten the bolt.

  1. Hold each camshaft sprocket with a counter-holding tool and tighten to 50 Nm.

WARNING:
Do not use camshaft setting tools to hold the camshafts when loosening or tightening bolts.

  1. Remove all tools.
  2. Rotate the crankshaft almost two full turns.
  3. Install the crankshaft locking tool.
  4. Slowly rotate the crankshaft clockwise until the crank web contacts the locking tool.
  5. Install the camshaft setting tool (1). Ensure it can be installed easily and secure it with bolts.
  6. Insert the camshaft checking pin (3). Ensure the tool can be fully inserted into the camshaft sprocket. If not, repeat the installation/timing procedure.
  7. Remove all setting tools.
  8. Hold the camshaft sprockets with a counter-holding tool.
  9. Tighten each camshaft sprocket bolt to the manufacturer’s specified torque.

WARNING:
Never use camshaft setting tools to counter-hold during tightening/loosening.

  1. Reinstall the exhaust camshaft adjuster cover. Use new bolts and tighten to the specified torque.
  2. Install the blanking plug of the intake camshaft adjuster.

NOTE: Replace the O-ring if damaged.

  1. Reinstall the blanking plug in the cylinder block.
  2. Reinstall all remaining components in reverse order.
