Camshaft Retaining Frame Tool for Opel 1.5 / 2.0 Diesel (EN-52770)

This specialized camshaft retaining tool is designed for safe removal and installation of camshafts on Opel 1.5L and 2.0L diesel engines.

It is essential when working on camshafts, as removing bearing caps without proper support will damage the ladder frame (camshaft carrier) in the cylinder head.

The set includes both versions:

• For 1.5L engines (use as EN-52770-10)
• For 2.0L engines (use as EN-52770-20)

Functionality

The tool enables:

• Secure holding of camshafts during disassembly
• Controlled release of camshaft load
• Safe removal and installation of bearing caps
• Prevention of cylinder head damage

Procedure

Removal

1. Remove valve cover
2. Remove timing chain and camshaft sprockets
3. Install retaining frame onto camshaft housing
4. Tighten the two mounting bolts hand-tight
5. Loosen the 20 camshaft bearing cap bolts
   → Note: bolts have different lengths
6. Gradually loosen the retaining tool bolts
   → Alternate both sides in ½ turn steps
   → Continue until camshafts are released

Installation

1. Ensure camshaft alignment marks are vertically upward
2. Install camshafts into position
3. Tighten retaining tool bolts gradually (½ turn alternately) until seated
4. Install bearing caps
   → Tighten from inside to outside, one cap at a time
5. Final tightening according to manufacturer specifications

Torque Specifications (Reference)

(Always follow manufacturer specifications)

• Camshaft main chain: 60 Nm + 90°
• Camshaft secondary chain: 20 Nm + 60°
• Crankshaft bolt: 180 Nm + 90°
• Valve cover: 13 Nm
• Fuel injection pump: 36 Nm
• Camshaft bearing caps:
  • 4 bolts: 15 Nm
  • 16 bolts: 8.5 Nm
