This specialized puller tool set is designed for removing and installing crankshaft pulleys (vibration dampers) on Jaguar and Land Rover engines.
Due to corrosion and high tightening torque, crankshaft dampers are often difficult to remove. This tool set enables fast and controlled removal and installation.
Functionality & Procedure
(Reference: Jaguar XK (X150) 5.0 AJ-V8-5.0, engine code 508PN)
Removal:
- Remove central crankshaft bolt
- Remove the four opposing bolts of the vibration damper
- Screw in the bolt (ensure sufficient thread engagement)
- Mount the puller onto the bolt until seated
- Attach support plate using the four previously removed bolts
- Remove the damper by turning the nut while holding the spindle
Installation:
- Apply sealing compound to the designated groove in the damper
- Screw in the bolt (ensure sufficient thread engagement)
- Attach support plate with bolts
- Install tool onto bolt until seated
- Press the damper into position by turning the nut while holding the spindle
Note:
- Check friction washer and replace if necessary
- Replace central bolt during reassembly

Due to corrosion and the high tightening torque, the pulleys are often difficult to remove. With this special tool, removal / pulling off of the harmonic balancer (vibration damper) can be carried out easily within a few minutes.
WARNING: Before loosening the crankshaft pulley bolt, note the markings on the bolt head.
- If the bolt head is marked 10.9, unscrew counterclockwise.
- If the bolt head is marked 12.9, unscrew clockwise.
Failure to follow this may result in damage to the crankshaft.
Procedure
(Reference: Jaguar XK (X150) 5.0 AJ-V8-5.0 – 508PN engine)
Removal:
- Remove the crankshaft central bolt
- Remove the four opposing bolts of the harmonic balancer
- First, screw in the threaded spindle/bolt (ensure sufficient thread engagement depth)
- Mount the puller over the spindle until it seats properly
- Attach the support plate using the four previously removed bolts
- Remove the harmonic balancer by turning the thrust nut while counter-holding the spindle
Note: Pay attention to the friction washer; replace it along with the central bolt.
Installation:
- Apply a sealing bead into the designated groove in the harmonic balancer
- First, screw in the threaded spindle/bolt (ensure sufficient thread engagement depth)
- Secure the support plate with the four bolts
- Screw the puller onto the spindle until it contacts the support plate
- Press the harmonic balancer into place by turning the thrust nut while counter-holding the spindle until fully seated
