This special tool is designed for installing the front crankshaft oil seal in the timing case cover on selected BMW and MINI vehicles.
It enables the seal to be installed evenly and at the correct depth, helping to reduce the risk of deformation or damage during assembly.
Suitable Vehicles
BMW and MINI: F20, F21, F22, F23, F30, F31, F32, F33, F36, F39, F45, F46, F48, F54, F55, F56, F57, F60, i8 I12

Important Compatibility Information
Different seal designs may be installed depending on the vehicle and production version.
On some first-generation vehicles, such as the BMW 1 Series F20 114d, the crankshaft oil seal could still be replaced separately. On most later versions, the oil seal is not available as an individual replacement part, and the complete timing case cover must be replaced.
For replacing the earlier seal design, use Item no. 116622.
Recommended Additional Tool
We recommend using flywheel holding tool Item no. 118126, as BMW 116130, to securely lock the crankshaft during the repair.

Potentially Required Tightening Torques
- Starter motor, B47/B37: 19 Nm
- Front axle carrier connecting rod: 3 Nm
Required Preparatory Work
Remove the crankshaft pulley. To do so:
- Remove the starter motor.
- Lock the flywheel using tool as 118126.
- Tightening specification for B37: 40 Nm + 120°.
2. Removal
- Remove the timing case cover.
- Thoroughly clean all mating surfaces. They must be completely free from grease and oil.
- CAUTION: At both joints between the oil pan and the engine block, apply a sealing bead approximately 2 mm thick.
3. Installation
- Join parts A and B of the tool.
- Carefully guide the assembled tool through the crankshaft seal and timing case cover. This allows the seal to expand gradually until it is positioned on the installation sleeve.
- Remove the tool component and position the timing case cover together with the installation sleeve on the crankshaft.
- When pressing the timing case cover into position, ensure that it is correctly aligned with the two outer guide sleeves on the left and right.
- Remove the installation sleeve.
- Inspect the dust lip of the crankshaft seal. It must face outward and must not be folded inward.
- Tighten the screws on the engine block to 8 Nm for B37 engines.
- Tighten the screws on the oil pan to 24 Nm for B37 engines.
- Reassemble the vehicle completely.
