M12 XZN Socket Set for VAG Bolted Wheel Bearings Without Driveshaft Removal

This professional 2-piece socket set has been developed for improved removal and installation of bolted wheel bearing units used on VAG vehicles.

Bolted wheel bearing units have been widely used on VAG vehicles since approximately 2004 and are typically secured to the steering knuckle with four M12 XZN bolts.

Using conventional sockets often requires complete driveshaft removal. This special socket set allows the wheel bearing retaining bolts to be accessed and serviced without removing the driveshaft.

Improved Service Procedure

The set includes two specially designed M12 XZN sockets with lengths of 78 mm and 120 mm.

These extended profiles provide access to the front wheel bearing retaining bolts, allowing loosening and tightening operations without prior driveshaft removal.

The central driveshaft bolt must still be removed due to the vehicle design, however complete driveshaft removal is generally not required.

Installation & Removal Notes

After removing the driveshaft centre bolt and dismantling the brake assembly, the wheel bearing retaining bolts can be accessed using these sockets.

The wheel hub and wheel bearing unit can then be removed using a suitable hub flange and slide hammer system.

The hub flange is designed to fit both the wheel hub bolt pattern and the wheel bearing unit bolt pattern.
