Valvetronic Valve Spring Compressor for BMW Mini PSA, as OEM 119570 / 0197-3B1

This specialized tool is used for tensioning and releasing the return spring on the intermediate lever in Valvetronic / VVT / VTI systems.

Due to the high preload of the spring, safe removal and installation are not possible without the correct tool. This compressor ensures controlled handling, preventing damage to engine components.

Disassembly 1

• Remove the cylinder head cover
• The retaining bolt of the return springs may only be loosened using the special tool
• Install the tool onto the balance shaft bearing cap, ensuring it rests correctly on the intermediate shaft
  → If necessary, rotate the eccentric shaft until it is in the minimum lift position

Step 2

Turn the knurled screw to actuate the return spring

• Check from below that the return spring is correctly seated on the tool arms
• If positioned correctly, the wire ends of the spring will sit properly in the recesses
• The spring can now be compressed using the lever
• Press the lever toward the opposite camshaft until the tool locking mechanism engages

Step 3

Loosen the center bolt through the opening in the tool

Step 4

Place the spring holder in a bench vise

• Remove the tool together with the spring from the cylinder head
• Position it securely in the holder within the vise
• Hold the lever, release the locking mechanism, and decompress the spring
• Loosen the knurled screw (standard thread)
• Remove the return spring

Installation

Step 1

Insert the return spring holder tool for the eccentric shaft into the bench vise

• Verify correct seating of the return spring on the tool arms
• Compress the spring using the lever until the locking mechanism engages
• Check the correct installation position of the roller rocker arms in the cylinder head
• Install the intermediate lever guide (sliding block / guide rail) and ensure proper guidance of the roller followers
• Install the two bolts (follow manufacturer specifications – N12)
  → Tighten to 5 Nm, then loosen by 90°
• Preload the intermediate lever using Tool Part No. 115420
  (equivalent to OE 119573, not included)
• Apply preload to the intermediate lever
• Tighten the two bolts to final torque (manufacturer specifications – N12)
  → 10 Nm
• Remove Tool Part No. 115420

Step 2

Install the valve spring compressor (Part No. 115419) with the preloaded return spring into the cylinder head

• Tighten the return spring retaining bolt
  (follow manufacturer specifications – N12) → 10 Nm
• Position the ends of the return spring into the recesses of the intermediate lever
• Recheck:
  • Return spring position
  • Intermediate lever
  • Roller rocker arms
    → Ensure correct installation alignment

Step 3

Loosen the locking screw to release the tool

• The lever can now be released
• Remove the tool

⚠️ Warning

Before operating the locking screw and lever, ensure that the return spring is correctly positioned in the cylinder head.
