This special tool is designed for installing the elastic ribbed belt that drives the air-conditioning compressor on the Smart 451.

Replacing this stretch-fit belt requires considerable force because the belt must be expanded during installation. Due to the large diameter of the crankshaft vibration damper positioned in front of it, the belt can only be fitted over the A/C compressor pulley.

Secure Belt Installation

During installation, the A/C compressor is disengaged, allowing the pulley running surface to rotate freely.

Without securing the belt against the pulley, controlled installation is difficult and the belt may be damaged. The tool holds the stretch belt in position on the pulley so that it can be guided on correctly during rotation.

Important Note

The original installation tool consists of two identical plates. Only one plate is required for the installation procedure and is therefore included with this tool.
