To adjust the camshaft, the alignment ruler is inserted into the groove at the end of the camshaft. The ruler rests against the sealing surface of the camshaft housing.
Rotate the engine in its normal direction of rotation until the tool can be inserted into the groove of the camshaft.
Using a feeler gauge, measure the clearance on both the right and left sides between the tool and the sealing surface. Both clearances must be equal.
Use of Locking Pins
The locking pins are used depending on the engine, at the timing belt pulley, injection pump, camshaft, or flywheel.
Slowly rotate the engine in its normal direction until the hole in the timing belt pulley aligns with the hole in the engine.
Insert the locking pin through the hole in the timing belt pulley into the corresponding hole in the engine housing.
Injection Pump Timing
Remove the sealing plug.
Rotate the engine in its normal direction until the timing mark on the injection pump timing belt pulley aligns with the mark on the engine.
Insert the crankshaft locking pin into the engine housing and tighten it by hand.
Crankshaft Positioning (TDC)
Slowly rotate the crankshaft clockwise until cylinder 1 is at Top Dead Center (TDC) on the compression stroke.
Install the crankshaft locking tool as shown and secure it with two bolts.
Loosen the crankshaft pulley bolt.
