Preparation

  • Remove the wheel, brake caliper, and brake caliper carrier.

  • Clean the brake caliper carrier thoroughly and secure it in a bench vise. This ensures better stability and easier access to the threaded holes.

Repair Procedure – One Damaged Thread

  • Clean the undamaged thread using a thread tap.

Note: Applying a small amount of grease to the thread tap will lubricate the tool and help capture metal shavings.

  • Insert the guide bolt into the intact thread and position the drilling guide over the guide bolt.

  • Use the second hole of the drilling guide to guide the step drill. First, drill out the damaged thread using the smaller step. Then enlarge the hole with the larger step until it matches the size required for the thread repair sleeve.

  • Apply a small amount of thread-locking adhesive to the outside of the thread repair sleeve.

  • Press the thread repair sleeve into place using the fixing bolt and thrust bearing.

Ensure that the thread repair sleeve is inserted from the side opposite the mounting side of the fixing bolt. This ensures that the sleeve cannot be pulled out of the brake caliper carrier when the carrier is mounted back onto the vehicle.

  • Remove all tool components and reassemble the brake system.

Repair Procedure – Both Threads Damaged

  • Drill out the damaged thread using the first step of the step drill. Then enlarge the hole with the second step until it matches the size required for the thread repair sleeve.

Ensure that the drill remains centered and perpendicular to the original thread during drilling to achieve an accurate repair.

  • Repeat the procedure described in the section "Repair Procedure – One Damaged Thread", starting from the step where the guide bolt is inserted into the intact thread.
