Camshaft Bearing Bridge Alignment Tool Set – VAG T40311 / T40311/1

This camshaft bearing bridge alignment tool set is a precision-engineered special tool designed for accurate alignment of camshafts and bearing bridges during engine assembly and repair.

It is essential when installing camshafts in 3.0L V6 TDI Gen.2 engines, ensuring correct positioning and preventing stress or misalignment that could lead to damage of camshafts, bearing surfaces, or the cylinder head.

Operating Principle

The locating pin is inserted into the threaded hole at cylinder 2 or cylinder 5 and secured. The alignment gauge is then positioned against the spherical contact surfaces of the bearing caps to verify and ensure correct alignment.

Torque Procedure (Reference Application)

Example reference: Audi A4 (8K) 3.0 TDI – engine code CLAB

Tightening steps:

• Step 1: Position components by hand
• Step 2: Tighten to 9 Nm

Sequence:

• Bearing bridges in order: 2 → 3 → 1 → 4
• Tightening pattern: center → outer → inner → proceed to next bridge

Important Notes

After installation, hydraulic lash adjusters must settle.
The engine must not be started for approximately 30 minutes after camshaft installation.

Failure to follow this may result in damage to valves and pistons.
