This special tool set is designed as an extension for the existing vibration damper removal and installation tool (Art. No. 115146, like T10531), used on VAG EA888 Gen.3 4-cylinder direct injection engines (1.8L and 2.0L TFSI, chain-driven) equipped with a starter generator.

For all 1.8L and 2.0L TFSI engines with timing chain drive, the crankshaft timing sprocket must be secured against rotation when removing the vibration damper.

For this purpose, a tension pin is screwed into the crankshaft instead of the central bolt. Using this tension pin, the crankshaft can be preloaded and held in position until the vibration damper is reinstalled.


Design Update Requirement

A factory update of the vibration damper, crankshaft sprocket, and lower timing chain cover requires an upgrade of the existing older tool set (Art. No. 115146, like T10531).

This extension kit allows workshops and mechanics to upgrade their existing tool set without the need to purchase a completely new system.


Application Notes

As with earlier TFSI engine generations, the timing chain sprocket must be preloaded before removing the vibration damper and must remain fixed in position.

Before loosening the central bolt, the vibration damper must be secured using the base plate. Insert and tension the tension pin. The vibration damper can then be removed together with the pressure plate.

The tension pin remains installed in the crankshaft stub or timing sprocket until reinstallation of the vibration damper.


Important Technical Note

The crankshaft does not have a collar or keyway. As a result, correct timing alignment cannot be guaranteed once the central bolt is loosened.
