These special pliers are designed for releasing and removing electrical connectors with locking tabs. Such connectors must often be pressed together before the locking mechanism can be released and the plug removed.

Dirt and dust can make connectors difficult to release by hand, particularly around the chassis and engine compartment. Using conventional screwdrivers or needle-nose pliers can break the locking tab and make the connector unusable.

The specially shaped jaws securely grip the connector, while the lever action allows it to be pressed, unlocked and removed with less effort.
