Water Pump Removal Tool Set for VAG 2.5L 5-Cylinder TDI as T10221A, T10222A & T10225A

This professional tool set is designed for removing the coolant pump on gear-driven VAG 2.5L 5-cylinder TDI engines installed in the VW Transporter T5 and VW Touareg.

The kit contains all special tools required to remove the water pump without the need to reset the engine timing. All tools are manufactured according to the latest OEM design revision (suffix A) using high-quality forged materials for maximum durability and precise fit.

On these engines, bearing failure, seal wear or corrosion can allow coolant to mix with engine oil. After repair, an engine oil and oil filter change may be advisable.

The coolant drain passage should also be cleaned to ensure coolant cannot enter the engine oil in the event of future seal leakage.

Removal Procedure

The exact removal procedure depends on the engine version and vehicle configuration. On some models, including BPD and BPE engines installed in the VW Touareg (7L), the EGR cooler and diesel particulate filter must be removed before accessing the water pump.

Drain the cooling system and remove the coolant drain plug.

The gear-driven water pump is located behind a sealing cover, which should always be replaced during reassembly.

Remove the cover and sound insulation.

Install the crankshaft adapter (Item No. KT10063A) and tighten it to 20 Nm. The adapter fits in only one position.

Use the crankshaft turning tool to counterhold the crankshaft while loosening the retaining bolt of the water pump gear. The engine does not need to be at Top Dead Centre.

After removing the retaining nut, use the two-arm puller (Item No. 121103) to remove the water pump gear.

On early-production engines where there is insufficient clearance behind the gear, carefully loosen the gear using light taps with a copper drift and hammer before using the puller.

Remove both water pump retaining bolts.

Pre-adjust the puller bridge spindle by threading it in until the end of the thread or the beginning of the hex section.

Install the puller bridge onto the pump shaft by turning it clockwise (left-hand thread). Once the bridge is supported against the cylinder block, continue turning the spindle to extract the water pump.

Installation Procedure

Lubricate the O-rings with coolant before installation.

Install the new water pump using new retaining bolts and tighten them to 20 Nm + 90°.

Install the water pump gear while counterholding the crankshaft adapter and tighten it to 84 Nm.

Install the coolant drain plug and tighten to 20 Nm.

Install a new water pump sealing cover, lightly lubricating the sealing lip, and tighten to 20 Nm.

Refill and bleed the cooling system according to the manufacturer's procedure.
